Deaf Awareness Workshops

Welcome to CODA Connect, LLC! We offer an interactive 8-hour Deaf Awareness Workshop for law enforcement and related fields. This hands-on training builds confidence, improves communication, and qualifies for LETCSA credit through CJTC. Learn practical skills to better serve the Deaf community and stay compliant with ADA law.

Course Content

Our course combines experience-based learning with communication strategies, de-escalation skills, and realistic scenarios to build confidence in field interactions. Participants gain essential knowledge of Deaf culture, ASL, ADA requirements, and practical tools like interpreter options and accessible resources for real-world application.

Instructors

Led by two CODAs with deep roots in the Deaf community, our instructors bring decades of combined experience in law enforcement, ASL instruction, and interpreting. Melissa Phillips and Monique Hirschkorn deliver real-world insight and hands-on training that bridges communication gaps and builds lasting skills.

Training

This workshop qualifies for 8 hours toward the LETCSA requirement (WAC 139-11) and satisfies 8 hours of the annual in-service training for Washington State officers (WAC 139-05-300).
